(WIP)She took the same route every day. Through the dead birch trees, into the barren field, and around the bend. On Monday she left as usual, bringing few necessities with her. All she needed for work was water, lunch, her phone, and an inhaler (just in case). The birch trees held their arms out for a couple of finches. A condor circled above. The field performed a restrained dance in the gentle wind. Bunches of thistle littered the ground, overpowering all other foliage. She watched as the thistle gently rocked in the wind. The tallest one stood alone. It had either grown first, or its twin bulbs had died. It drooped slightly. On Teusday she noticed the plant again. It had drooped more, pulled down by its oversized head. It was an especially dry season, but thistle strived on neglect, or so she figured. On Wednesday it drooped dramatically. Something felt wrong. She opened her bag and offered the plant a drink from her water bottle.
