The gallery is really coming together. Portraits of all kinds and all sizes, hanging together on her walls. Everything from the development of portraiture onwards: Roman funerary paintings from Egypt. Medieval European manuscript drawings, all gold leaf and blank, big-eyed faces. Pale, severe Dutch Renaissance, their slightly warmer cousins from Italy. Dark and dramatic Baroques, soft and dreamy Rococos. Romantics and realists, sharp Art Decos and smooth Art Nouveau, bright and stylized Pop Art. A timeline of beauty.
She loves it here, loves seeing the faces of the patrons as they're transfixed by a piece or even scowling at something they don't like. It's an experience she still remembers having herself, staring at an Alphonse Mucha in a crowded museum and being swept away in a tide of emotion. Since that day, it's been her dream to bring it to others, one way or another. Her original paintings never sold, but her galleries and museum collections have been the talk of the art community for years. That was her first dream, she muses, watching a young couple mimic the poses in one painting, laughing, but it wasn't her best dream.
