Treeko, what's going on?! You're glowing! A young girl exclaimed, her soft lavender eyes as round as saucers. An older boy across from her shook his head, his hand covering his eyes. Did she really not know what was going on? That her precious Pokemon was evolving? His own Pokemon, a young pup-like fire-type, shifted impatiently as the transformation took place. As the light began to fade, the fire-type Pokemon launched his attack.

Houndour, use Flamethrower! Hurry before it has a chance to realize what has happened! The boy snapped, recovering his composure. It couldn't be helped-- if she didn't know anything about Pokemon, she should have never challenged him to a battle. He watched as the newly evolved Grovyle narrowly avoided what would have been a super-effective move, landing gracefully on a tree branch above them. So, that Grovyle is pretty quick. Guess we're going to have to up our game, Houndour! Use Will-O-Wisp on the surrounding trees, then use Flamethrower one more time! We'll stop that Grovyle in its tracks!

Grovyle's eyes widen, fear clearly over-taking the wood gecko's mind as flames began to encroach on her hiding. She took a deep breathe before quickly leaping to another tree, then another. Unfortunately for her, it seemed that the wind was on the side of her opponents as it blew the embers of the growing inferno towards her. She needed to find a way to escape- to get the flames to stop one way or another. Ignoring her trainer's plea to use a move Quick Attack on the Houndour, Grovyle leaped to the ground and took off further into the forest. She didn't slow down for what seemed like hours, desperate to make sure she was out of harm's way, not caring if her trainer followed her or not. She couldn't go back there-- she couldn't face another one like him... not after what happened right after she hatched.

Into the future we go...

Two years have gone by after the incident with the houndour. Grovyle never returned to her owner, but rather began traveling and exploring the world around her-- staying very clear from any and all fire-type Pokemon, and fleeing from them when she does happen across one. She has stuck to herself, rarely relying on anybody for food, shelter, or help in healing. Despite this, she is beginning to grow tired of wandering the world alone.

Friday. It is the only day that I have to myself, and I was going to spend every minute of it celebrating. I had accomplished much in my twenty-three years on Earth, and now at the start of my twenty-fourth, I couldn't help get a little anxious. Did I really choose the right path? What if I chose the wrong path? Could I still escape and go the straight and narrow path? I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath.

No. College was for people who have hopes and dreams. It was for people who wanted to conform to the rules that they have always lived by. I am not one of those type of people. No. I am someone who lives my life on the edge. Whenever I get into a fight, its plainly for the thrill of it. Though... the paycheck isn't half bad. I opened my eyes as I gently swirled the drink in my glass. I knew it would only be a matter of time before my luck and experience would fail me, and I would not complete the job I was given.

Lost in thought, I almost didn't notice the men looming in the corner of the pub. They were talking amongst themselves, but often cast their looks in my direction. A felt a small twisted smile creep onto my face. I rose from my table, plopped a couple of fat bills on the table and strolled past them towards the doors. As I passed them, I heard their breath hitch in the back of their throats and I snickered. So it was true. My reputation precedes me.

Almost as if to confirm my thoughts, my head snaps in the direction of a deep throaty laugh. The shadows surrounded the man, but I could smell the reek of cigars from where I stood. Pretending that I hadn't realized someone was there, I turn my back to the shadows and head out of the alleyway-- the first mistake. I could hear the footsteps of multiple people running, and they were coming towards me. I kept walking-- the second mistake.
