If you had seem Ferity many Luminaires ago, you would’ve thought her to be a real scrooge.

Ferity was a mischievous cherry qrykee who put her massive strength and giant jaws to use by tearing apart decorations during the Luminaire season. No display of holiday cheer was safe. It didn’t matter if lights and ornaments were lying unattended or brightening up a tree, Ferity would tear them to shreds. Her destructive behavior firmly planted Ferity on the naughty list in many people’s minds.

One day, Ferity learned that other worlds celebrated a similar holiday called Christmas. On Christmas Eve, a guy called Santa Claus gave gifts to everyone in the world. Well, every one that was good. People who were said to be naughty were given coal. Ferity eventually began to question the entire process of who gets on the naughty list. Some of those who were deemed “naughty” didn’t seem naughty at all. Some people were never taught the Santa tradition in their homes during childhood. Others simply stopped believing in Santa at some point. Some poor souls had suffered horrific experiences on Christmas and disliked the holiday as a result. Still others disliked Christmas for less drastic reasons but tried not to spoil the holiday for their friends and family. Ferity realized that she fit the “naughty” label more than these people. The qrykee eventually decided that she wanted to help these so-called “naughty” folks get the gifts they desired. It didn’t take too long for such an opportunity to arise.

One day Ferity heard of a young girl that didn’t believe in Santa Claus. The girl had grown up in a loving but no-nonsense home that didn’t entertain the idea of Santa Claus. Recently, this girl had been picked on by a classmate that believed in Santa Claus. The girl’s family had fallen on hard financial times, which meant that she was unlikely to get presents this year. When someone suggested to the girl that she write a letter to Santa, the girl firmly responded with the statement that Santa didn’t exist. This statement had prompted the classmate, another young girl, to go on a rant about people who did not believe in Santa Claus. The classmate claimed that the girl’s family was suffering consequences for not supporting the Christmas spirit. This statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. The girl’s mother volunteered at the local food bank and brightened the season for the less fortunate.

Ferity learned that the rude classmate and some other children were attending an event at a moderate-sized mansion where they signed up to receive toys. Each child would state on the form what kind of toys they wanted. During the night, the qrykee snuck into the mansion and searched for the form with the name of the rude classmate. Once Ferity had found the form, she read it and went into the room where the toys were stored. Once the qrykee entered, she began loading the items on the form into a large sack she had brought with her. After all the toys were loaded into the sack, the qrkyee slunk out of the mansion and slipped away into the nearby river. The sack that Ferity had brought with her was waterproof, so none of the items in the sack got wet.

A few days later the girl who didn’t believe in Santa Claus was surprised to find a bag filled with toys on her family’s doorstep! While several of the items within the bag were not on the child’s Christmas wish-list, the girl was grateful to have gotten anything.

Meanwhile, the day came when all the children who had signed up for the mansion’s toy giveaway were to receive their toys. Every child was overjoyed to get the toys they had requested.

Every child, that is, except the rude classmate.

The mansion’s staff regretfully told the classmate and her family that they had somehow lost the form with the classmate’s wishes. Without a form, the staff could not give the toys. No one would ever find the missing form either, for Ferity had shredded the document with her strong jaws and scattered the fragments into the swampy water near her home.

Ferity continued to execute elaborate schemes designed to help those who appeared “naughty” but evidence showed quite the contrary. During one of these schemes, Ferity encountered a clusmy alight. The qrykee took a liking to the small bird and adopted him. Soon Ferity enlisted her new friend to serve as a distraction while she executed her schemes. The alight would rush in towards the target making strong cries. While the target was distracted with trying to help the minion, Ferity would sneak up and make her move.

One day Ferity was traveling down the road, another scheme mulling around in her brain. Suddenly the qrykee heard a small voice call out to her. Ferity looked around until she saw a small fairy-like being flying above her. It was a Jenevive!

The Jenevive had learned about the mischief Ferity had been causing. The minion stated that while Ferity’s heart was in the right place, her actions weren’t the ideal way to spread holiday cheer. The Jenevive asked Ferity if she truly wanted to bring happiness to those deemed “naughty”. After a bit of thought, Ferity said she did. The Jenevive smiled and cast a magical spell. Ferity began to feel some strange sensations in her body and fell asleep.

Ferity woke up and found herself lying next to a sparkling pond. The qrykee looked into the water and was surprised to see the image reflected back. Her bright cherry red scales had become a combination of soft shades of purple and blue. She was now an angel qrykee!

“Ferity?’ a voice spoke.

The angel qrykee turned to see a cherry feli standing nearby.

“Your transformation has occurred because of your intentions to help others,” the cherry feli began. “Yet you still have a long way to go before you truly earn your wings. Ferity, you will travel around Subeta to help those who may seem naughty to others but are not. I will accompany you to guide you in making the right decisions.”

Ferity began to see a faint image of the Jenevive she had previously encountered embedded within the cherry feli. She smiled at Ferity and walked up to her.

“Let’s go,” the feli said.

From that day forward, Ferity traveled around Subeta to give the naughty some Luminaire cheer.
