Somewhere in a secluded land, there is a meadow surrounded by the most beautiful cherry blossom trees that never seem to lose their blooms, no matter how many petals fall, or what the season is. On one summer's day when the windswept petals lay strewn about the soft grass, the sun's warm rays cascaded through the trees creating patches of warm in the soft meadow and coming to illuminate a small dozing figure curled up and barely taller than the lush greenery. A gentle breeze kicked up, rustling the blades of grass right at her nose and causing it to twitch as her rosy eyes fluttered open to the day. Huffing a faint puff at the sensation in her nose, she slowly lifted her head to greet the day just as a new smattering of petals began to fall.

On this cozy day, as she slowly roused from her nap, one of the petals gracefully fluttered down to land perfectly balanced on the tip of her nose, which tickled tremendously. Turning her bright eyes inward to see the petal on her nose, she was surprised when it was soon joined by another. And then another floated just past her clear vision. Though, being cross-eyed, that was pretty much everywhere except the tip of her nose. She was just about to uncross her eyes when a full flower dropped onto her nose and disrupted the small pile of petals she had collected up to that point. She blinked. A full flower was strange, it was usually only the petals that fell. Then there was another. Then another. Then two, three, five! Bonk! That was most definitely not a petal. Glancing at the grass to see what had fallen on her head, she was blinded for a moment by the sun's reflection on the shining gold token.

She blinked, angling her head so the reflection from the coin was no longer directly in her eyes, and shifted one tired leg out from under herself to paw at the little thing. There was a delightful clinking noise when her hoof made contact with the metal surface, and for a moment she continued tapping it just to make the sound. That was when she heard rustling from the tree above her and another few blossoms fell around her. Turning her attention up to the branches, rosy eyes took on a curious tint as they were confronted by a new sort of creature the likes of which she had never seen before and, even with its eyes closed, she got the feeling he was staring straight at her as well. It was the first time she'd seen another creature in her clearing, and definitely the first time one had dropped something on her head. It seemed like an eternity she spent gazing up at the strange calico soul before he quickly scampered back along the branch and down the tree toward her. More than a little startled, she sprang to her feet and a few trots away from where the coin had landed and he approached. He stepped forward slowly, cautiously, watching her every move as he neared the golden coin until finally, he stopped and stood by his treasure.

She was about to take a nervous step toward the small furry creature when it did something truly strange. He puffed up, fur bristling and, turning sideways, shuffled toward her in a rather odd and stiff manner before snatching up the gold piece in his mouth and bouncing away still quite rigidly. Completely unsure of what just happened, she watched the little fluffy creature go for a moment before hopping off after him. The multi-coloured ball of fuzz was quick, and up another tree by the time she managed to catch up to him. He looked down at her from the branches where she, standing on her hind legs with one hoof braced against the trunk of the tree, was looking up at him. He shifted on the slender branches, one of the blooms at his feet coming loose to tumble down to land beside her, and she did a quick pirouette before taking up her position at the tree once more, a happy gleam in her sparkling eyes. At this, the sprightly creature tilted his head to the side and moved again which dropped another flower. And once again she did her little spin and leaned up against the tree again. So he batted another flower down and was met with yet another spin and her now playful gaze. She pawed at the trunk with her hoof and stepped back, inviting him to play again if he so chose. But he was still a little wary and took this opportunity to scamper along the branches and take his leave. A little dejected, she turned and gave a quick trot around the meadow before returning to where she had previously slept and curled up in the sun once more.

It was a few hours later when she woke, roused by a faint sound of rustling in the grass and then a light object suddenly on her nose. Her eyes slowly opened, obviously groggy, and crossed to take in the flower on her nose. Blinking a few times to ensure what she saw was true, she lifted her head and turned her gaze forward to take in the calico creature she had encountered earlier. He was about half her size, and had the coin tucked securely under his paws, waiting expectantly for her response. She dipped her head forward, letting the flower fall to the ground in front of her, and nudged it toward him with her nose. He sat up straight for a moment and stared at the blossom before crouching down, and, wiggling a little, reaching forward to bat at it with a small paw. Then suddenly, he pounced at it in a mock tackle before, as he had earlier, snatching up his coin and bounding off into the grass like a fluffy tumbleweed. And with that, the games were on.

They'd play tag, which he would win. They'd play hide and seek, which he would also win. They'd snuggle in the evenings, watching the stars together. He even warmed up to her enough to let her play with the coin he carried, which she would hide somewhere for him to find. And she'd call him clever because he always managed to find the coin in under a minute, no matter where she hid it. They've been together since that warm summer's day, and will likely play together for many days to come. It has been like this since the beginning, always starting the same: with a flower placed gently on her nose.
