“Okay… I’ll start from the beginning.

It was just my two friends and I, looking to get out of town for a few days. We decided to take a road trip, so we hit the 55 towards Louisiana. It wasn’t long before the three of us got hungry, so we stopped right off of the highway at a touristy kind of Cajun place. I wasn’t really in the mood for crawfish, but my friends certainly were.

I guess that’s when the storm started.

We headed back out despite the weather, thinking it would probably clear up soon enough. We started to lose radio signal, though. Eventually, all we could tune into was a channel playing nothing but southern soul, until they interrupted it mid-song with some strange-ass local show. They were saying…”

“Next thing we knew, the storm was getting worse and worse. The wind was howling, the sky was black, and we could barely see through the rain. Between trying to read the street signs and our crappy paper map, we were starting to get nervous, so we pulled off on an exit near a motel in Slidell to figure out what to do next.

All of a sudden, there he was – a man, rising out of the bayou. He moved so fast that I barely noticed him until he was right up on our car, banging on the windshield like a madman. His eyes were… were yellow, his teeth were black, and he was screaming…”

“I sped out of there as fast as I could, but by then, the roads were starting to flood. I ended up swerving down an unmarked forest road, but… that was a bad move, in retrospect. It wasn’t long before I couldn’t see the road at all anymore. I tried to look around for anything to help me figure out where I was, but all I could see was the sign… ‘Lake Pontchartrain.’

I was barely paying attention to my friend when he said that he’d seen somebody out in the water. Suddenly, he was out of the car, running towards the lake, with our other friend following closely behind. I screamed at them to come back – why the hell would they leave the car? – but they couldn’t hear me. I went to try to help them, but that’s when I heard it… the voices were calling out from under the lake.”

“I watched in terror as my friends went in deeper, my ears filled with the sounds of screaming crawfish and rushing water. The lake opened up like a roaring maw, pulled my friends in, and swallowed them whole.

That's it. That’s how it happened! Why would I lie?! There were no bodies! I have nothing to hide! I’m just a boy who lost his friends in the rain! You want to know what happened to them?! Just go and ask Lake Pontchartrain!”
