Ages ago, Tzar was a commander in the war between man and dragon. He was a force of nature, demolishing villages and leveling forts.
After many battles won under Tzar's command, no success in killing him, and no foreseeable end, a mage chose a different method of stopping the dragon. He worked up a curse that transformed Tzar into a man, and wiped his memory clean.
With no commander, the attacks ceased for a time. For more than a hundred years, Tzar lived as a nameless man in a poor village, with no home and no idea of the life he had. But as the decades passed, the other villagers noticed he had not aged a single day. While the mage had changed his appearance, he could not remove the longevity of his kind. The people grew wary of the strange man and chased him out of their town.
He was soon discovered by a roaming dragon that had been scouting the village, and was nearly devoured. Just as the beast's jaws gaped forward, he noticed the unmistakable scent of a dragon he once knew. Convinced he'd found the missing commander, and much to the terror of the cursed man, the dragon scooped him up and carried him to Drekhalla.
With much study and hard work from the elders, Tzar was restored to his original form. The male had become lean and still retained no memory of his previous life. He had to relearn how to be a dragon.
After years of training, Tzar was just as impressive as he'd been before the curse. However, his life as a man had given him insight that no other dragon had. His stories and struggles inspired them, and he was eventually made King. Under his rule, the outright attacks on any human settlements were stopped. Instead, they would only intervene in cases of overhunting, or anything that would upset the Balance.
Their world had finally found an age of peace.
