Art Deco first appeared in France around 1910.

After Art Nouveau's popularity began to fade, it was largely replaced by the Art Deco style. Art Deco drew inspiration from other artistic movements such as Cubism, Fauvism, and from various Asian cultures at the time. Focusing on glamour and luxury, Art Deco often incorporated expensive materials (gold, ebony, ivory, etc.) and intricate craftsmanship. Some of the most famous artists attributed to the Art Deco style are Tamara de Lempicka (a painter), Erté (a fashion designer), René Lalique (a jewler), and Le Corbusier (an architect).

By World War II, Art Deco's influence began to fall and become replaced by the undecorated and purely functional style of Modernism, particularly in modern architecture.

An unexpected visitor.

Hearing nothing but interesting things about the abandoned building, you slowly and gently push open the front door, hoping not to disturb any of the surroundings. The floorboards creak loudly under your hiking boots. To your left, you see a kiosk that seems to have once been used to collect tickets. On the right, a hallway is lined with tall, towering paintings hung in gilded frames. The dust on them is caked so thick, you can barely make out the images underneath. Directly in front of you, a sweeping staircase ascends to a dark and crumbling upstairs.

As you step closer to one of the paintings to try and get a better look, the sound of ruffling feathers startles you. You whip your head around to see a bright, buzzing Yaherra peering around the edge of the kiosk desk.

"Hello!" they squawk, fluttering their tail one more time for effect. Before you get a chance to respond, they eagerly ask, "Do you want to see my collection?!"

Smiling, you nod and follow them towards the staircase. Their hooves clap loudly on the antique stairs. While you're happy to have some kind of guide, you can't help but wonder if the creature had been watching you since you first walked in the door...
