Gillyweed is a magical plant that, when eaten, allows a human to breathe underwater. It is said to resemble a bundle of slimy, grey-green rat tails. When eaten, it gives the consumer gills, allowing them to breathe underwater, and webbing between the fingers and toes, allowing them to swim underwater with ease. Gillyweed is native to the Mediterranean Sea.

Gillyweed is also the plant that Harry Potter takes in order to get through the 2nd task of the Triwizard tournament in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
