Then down, deep down, in the mighty ship, unseen by the midday suns,
You ’ll find the chaps who are giving the raps—the men behind the guns!

Rose is found and put on trial for impersonating a soldier, staying in a jail cell, of course, until her fate is decided. When they realize that her husband, the soldier she had been impersonating, had already recently been killed in battle, Rose's case is adjourned. Before long, she's released on parole for good behavior, but is heartbroken to return to a "free" world without her beloved.

Unbeknownst to her, Rose's husband, Victor, is left as a restless soul. His once youthful skin has turned dank and gray, his bones are beginning to show through the rotting flesh, and his claws are quickly becoming overgrown.
---
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

---
Suddenly, the dirt shifted. Victor was amazed. This was the first physical sensation he had felt in...how long? It has to be at least a year, he thought. Victor continued to shift his body around, his flesh feeling lose and exposed. Slowly, Victor's mind finally made the connection

Oh my god, oh my god, I'm dead! Victor felt himself trying to gasp for air, but his dead lungs inhaled nothing. He began moving his jaw, finding that his mouth was filled with gritty dirt and sand. He felt panicked, but no heartbeat echoed in his ear, the way it did when he was alive. There was no blood rushing to his brain, his heart wouldn't pump, his lungs no longer involuntarily moved.
