Merrily Fairweather began life as a nameless carousel legeica at a carnival. Unlike many carousels, Merrily's didn't produce its own music, but was set near a stage for hired and visiting performers to play their music. For many years, the carnival enjoyed steady attendance and popularity, but eventually, the combination of more and more expensive upkeep and the newer Delphi Beach Carnival saw attendance dwindling. On one of these days, a bard happened to arrive at the carnival; whether intentional or not, their musical performance had a hint of magic — enough to bring one of the carousel legeicas to life that same night.

Merrily took her name from words etched onto decorative pennants on the carousel that had once been her base, and set out to explore the deserted carnival. When morning came, she was greeted by extremely confused and frightened carnival workers. Fortunately, peace was made quickly, and the carnival owner decided Merrily would be a fascinating attraction that might bring attention to the carnival. He and some of the other carnival workers began teaching her how to play instruments, and Merrily quickly took to it and began composing her own pieces.

However, she wished to see more of the world than the carnival she had been trapped in all of her life, and while her carousel origin drew some attention, there wasn't enough intrigue to change the carnival's fate. As the situation grew more dire, the carnival began downsizing, and Merrily took advantage and left for exploration and to share her music with the world, accompanied by a fashionable rat from the carnival's unusually intelligent colony.

Merrily is a cheerful, optimistic legeica, quick with rhymes and tunes and rarely in upset for long. As the technical youngest of the party, she can sometimes be quite naive and taken by surprise, but is generally quick to get her hooves back under her. While her fellow carnival workers couldn't teach her bardic magic, she seems to have also inherited an innate ability to use it, when she puts her mind to an effect she wants her music to have. Though no slouch in combat herself — a wooden hoof from a hundred-something pound legaica is no laughing matter — Merrily generally chooses to encourage and empower her teammates, and distract and disturb their enemies with her music.
