The locals called it Fairy Hill. A small, grassy hill covered with wildflowers, small trees here and there, stones scattered about...it looked pretty much like any other hill in the area, really, but there was something about it. A feeling that one got if they strayed too long. At night, you could see small lights about if you looked hard enough. Skeptics would say they were lightning bugs or swamp gas, but believers knew. It was said the hill belonged to the fairies and that in days past, they helped local farmers and villagers with their crops and the weather. Some would shake their heads at that, but others nodded sagely. Little children who lived in the area would make little huts, houses, and other bits and bobs for the fairies, hoping to entice them to friendship or play. But no one had seen a fairy there in ages, if they ever truly had. There was now just a feeling of watchfulness and of magic about the place. No one ever seemed to notice the green eyes watching them from odd places in the land or the trees. And that was the way she preferred it.
