Biyu was abandoned as a baby on the front steps of the bathhouse, left with nothing but a small note with her name pinned to a threadbare blanket. An early morning visitor, there to take a nice soak before starting her day, found the squalling infant and forgot all about her bath, taking the baby home instead. The woman who took her in ran a small craft shop covered in white flowering vines on the edge of the floating market, and it was there that young Biyu grew up. She learned all sorts of skills from her adopted mother, but she really took to crocheting and knitting, becoming skilled rather quickly with hook, needles, and thread. One day, her mother told her, the shop would be hers to live in and run all on her own. Biyu was happy with her simple life, but always there in the back of her mind was a nagging question. She didn't look like her adopted mother or anyone else she'd ever seen for that matter. Although she never lacked in love and care, friends and family, Biyu still wondered on an idle day...who am I? Where did I come from? She didn't know if she'd ever find out, but she was sure whoever her mother had been, would have been proud of her.
