Enid both dreaded and looked forward to going to school. It was an odd sensation that crept up every evening before she went to bed and especially so on Sunday evenings. She loved the academics - she was in all of the advanced classes, except for English-related subjects, which just weren't really her thing. Her favorite classes were chemistry, biology, and calculus. She had always excelled in anything related to science and math and it showed on her report cards. She'd never gotten less than an A- in any of her favorites, except for one time with a math teacher that just did not seem to like her for some reason. She shrugged that off though - there was always bound to be one. Just like there was always bound to be one mean girl who wouldn't leave her alone. A pretty blonde named Rachel had been her personal 'mean girl' since middle school. Rachel always made sure to say at least one rude thing a day to Enid - she called her fat (when she wasn't really overweight at all), ugly, nerd, four-eyes, all the normal things a mean child calls a child they choose to pick on. Enid knew it shouldn't bother her, but inside, it really did. If it weren't for Rachel, she didn't think she'd even have started having problems with anxiety and depression like she did now. It didn't help that she didn't really have any friends she felt close to - just a few other nerdy types from ap science class and robotics club that she hung around with sometimes. But she figured it was all for the better, really. It gave her more time to study and work on her experiments and new math problems. Her goal was to get into SIT (Subeta Institute of Technology) one day and it would take a lot of studying and work even for a top notch student like herself. But it would be worth it in the end when she was working her dream job, doing experiments, working with chemicals, and doing equations every day. If that made her a 'nerd', then so be it. She would wear the title proudly.
