Leviathan open your eyes
I cannot save the world's demise

My introduction to this Danish band happened through the radio. They played the song For Evigt and I remember that me and my mom couldn’t for the life of us understand what was being sung in the chorus. We figured that it must have been in another language than English, but we had no idea what language it was in. When we heard it again some time later I decided to look up the lyrics to the song. And I have to say that both of us felt really silly for not having heard that it was sung in Danish. Not only because of the fact that the band is from Denmark (which we were aware of), but also because we live in the very south of Sweden and Denmark is very close to us here. So close that it’s not uncommon for us to hear Danish spoken on the radio every now and then. Anyway, I have since then looked them up some more and I am definitely a fan of them and their pretty unique sound.
They have about 100 songs at present, and I honestly really like most of them. So, that means a long list of honorable mentions. And here is that list of songs: Shotgun Blues, Wait a Minute My Girl, Temple of Ekur, Say No More, Heaven's Descent, Mindlock, Pelvis on Fire, Rewind the Exit, When We Were Kids, Sorry Sack of Bones, Cloud 9, Cheapside Sloggers, Parasite, The Awakening of Bonnie Parker, The Everlasting, Under the Influence, Immortal But Destructible, The Devil’s Bleeding Crown, Marie Laveau, The Gates of Babylon, Let It Burn, Black Rose, Rebound, Goodbye Forever, Seal the Deal, The Loa’s Crossroad, Slaytan, Pearl Hart, The Nameless One, Dead But Rising, Cape of Our Hero, The Hangman’s Body Count, My Body, Lonesome Rider, The Sinner Is You, Doc Holliday, Heaven nor Hell, Who They Are, Fallen, 7 Shots, A New Day, A Warrior’s Call, Magic Zone, Thanks, Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, Back to Prom, Mary Ann’s Place, Maybellene, We, Still Counting, Light a Way, Wild Rover of Hell, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, A Broken Man and the Dawn, Making Believe, The Human Instrument, Mr. & Mrs. Ness, The Gardens Tale, Sad Man’s Tongue, River Queen, Radio Girl, A Moment Forever, Rebel Monster, Say Your Number and Everything’s Still Fine.

All alone with no armor

Moving on to my top ten songs by this band now. And first up we have Lola Montez. Many of their songs will make my list of songs that I like because of the wonderful mix of metal and the classic sounds of rock n’ roll and rockabilly music. I love that mix, and this band does it so well. This song is a perfect example of that to me. It’s just a nice song to listen to.
In ninth place we have 16 Dollars, which falls into the same category as the last one for me. But the reason for this one ending up higher on my list is because the classic rock sound is even more prominent in this one.
And in eighth place we have Mary Jane Kelly. Same as with the previous two songs when it comes to the sound of this one, but here I also really like the lyrics, as well as how good Michael Poulsen’s voice sounds when singing those lyrics.
In seventh place we have Die to Live, which has so much of a rock n’ roll sound to it. Especially when the piano and saxophone get to shine in it. And the addition of Neil Fallon’s voice is also a very nice touch.
Moving on to number six we have 7:24. This one has a much softer sound to it, which is nice and refreshing. And Poulsen’s voice gets to shine in a different way because of that.
In fifth place we have Maybe I Believe. Another one of their softer songs, although not quite as soft as the previous one. Like with the previous one it’s more the lyrics that I really like with this one. And the fact that I can enjoy Poulsen’s vocals more.
In fourth place we have Battleship Chains. This one has simple lyrics but it still captivates me. More so because of the music though. But I love it, and sing along whenever I listen to it.

Your burning eyes shine from under

And now we move on to my top three songs with this band. And in third place I have the one that started my love for this band, For Evigt. I know that there is an English version of this song but I just…don’t like that one at all. It has to have the Danish chorus for me. Anything else just sounds wrong to me.
In second place I have one of their newer songs, Last Day Under the Sun. This one just resonated with me from the first time that I heard it. It’s got nice lyrics and a nice rock n’ roll sound to it. And it’s one of the softer songs which also means that you get to hear the vocals better.
And now we’ve reached the last song on the list. My number one Volbeat song. And that place goes to Leviathan! I’m not entirely sure why I love it so much. I just do. It’s got a nice metal and rock n’ roll blended sound to it. And I like the lyrics. I think the fact that it’s about a mythological being adds an extra interest for me, honestly. Whatever the reason is, I love it!

You said that you and I

I’m definitely glad that I decided to look into this group some more after hearing that first song by them on the radio a few times. I haven’t regretted it for a second. I love that they add that classic rock n’ roll and rockabilly sound to their otherwise metal sound. It makes them quite unique in my eyes. And I definitely look forward to hearing more music from them in the near future, as I know that they have a new album in the works. And hopefully many more albums after that one ♥️

Could make 'em all terrified
And clean up the whole world
