they who swallowed the SUN

Many a maw snapped at the solar rays that arched and swirled, the riptide of purples and reds morphed into a being with intent to destroy the light. Feathers and fur split down the sternum to the belly, peeling back a wide array of teeth and tendrils of slick oil and tar. A black hole it became as it began to inhale the heat of the brightest star, pulling the orb of hydrogen burning hot as volcanic magma into it's gaping maw. As the sun was being devoured, the many other traps of teeth and tongues lapped up the remaining arcs of solar beams. Like a zipper, the teeth connected together as the last light of the sun was soon devoured by the entity, leaving nothing but darkness in the solar system. Trotting off along the rings of Saturn, it scoped the small system for more suns to devour, it's hunger unending.

It happens upon a planet that is like one it had seen many a time before as it traveled around the galaxy, but it would soon descend. A low reverberating vibration shook the planet in it's approach, head lurching through the clouds like a comet slowly making its way to impact the planet. Why was it here? What could possibly draw the cosmic horror to this lowly planet?

It had a sun.

Not just any sun, but a sun that hung in the atmosphere and only the planet moved. It wasn't large like it had just devoured, no, compare this to a gumball versus a watermelon. It was laughably small. But it was enough to power the planet and to grow the seed.

Tangled webs of space dust, electricity and horror did not care for what the sun did for the planet, for it would open it's maw once more, moving closer to inhale the sun. The people below screamed and cried, wailing and praying on their knees, begging the horror to cease it's meal. But the beast did not hear. Cities crumbled, blood was spilt upon asphalt from buildings, the planet cracking open to exhale it's last breath. But the beast did not see.

All it did was consume.
