Bauble was born somewhere close to the farm. A storm knocked them out of a tree when they were just a baby. Before they hit the ground, something felt different. They opened their eyes. They were somewhere strange, floating above and within a black, bubbling goo. They found themselves in a black and white version of the farm. It was definitely our world, but maybe it was more than just a color change. Some place in between reality and fiction. From then on, Bauble could slip in between a lot of places nearby using the black magical liquid, sort of like unseen portals. No one could ever spot them when they used their portals, so they decided to hide quietly in the abandoned farmhouse attic. They wouldn’t be bothered there. They had a love and knack for flawlessly stealing little things from the residents who came to live there. Small, minuscule items like socks, or forgotten jewelry. Random, every day and forgotten items are their favorite things to collect. No one ever batted an eyelash, no one talked about the items being missing, so Bauble didn’t feel important which in turn, made them feel like they didn’t need to connect and show themselves to any of the humans that came to the house. No one ever seems to notice, until someone new came one day who would change their feelings on humans. Well at least their feelings on one human.

When Pea inherited the farm and secret garden from a distant cousin, she started to move in her belongings. She'd have random things go missing like a spoon, or one earring but she'd chalk it up to taking her a few days to come back with more stuff and the items getting lost in the move. There were even things that went missing that she wouldn't think of for a few months. When she was fully moved in, more and more things started to go missing. One day when she was searching for a lost ring, she decided to put a box of holiday decorations in the attic that was in the way. The attic was dark except for a small circular window at the other end of the wall. The sun brightened the room with gentle light. The light was bright enough that a large pile of missing items caught her eye. This pile was like something you see in a pirates tale, a treasure trove, a dragons horde. As she was looking through the pile, the sun started to darken, like a thunderstorm was rolling in. She turned around to see a large grayscale owl standing in what seemed to be dark bubbling liquid. Pea yelled which startled the owl but it still approached, dropping the missing ring at her feet. Pea, being a person who would always take in stray pets, told the owl if they wanted to stay, the owl would have to help in the garden and help collect eggs. She thought of the perfect name for them: Bauble.
