You step as lightly as possible in the dark glade. The mist here is low but dense, thick enough to obscure the features of the earth beneath it. You think you know the way home, but you soon find you are mistaken as you cross the same old willow tree for the second time. Against your better judgement you rest yourself on the large rock nestled in its roots. You realize you are breathing heavy, and you will yourself to control your breath. As your breathing quiets you become suddenly aware that the mist to one side of you is moving, like it is alive. You turn to face it and find yourself unable to move as the white pupils of a Nightmare pierce into you.

It comes closer to you as its form becomes more clearer and clearer to your view. Dread and paralyzing terror fill you as it reaches out to you with its black wings. The wings close around you entirely, and you feel its hair brush against your skin as it coils around you. Suddenly the terror vanishes, replaced with comfort and peace. You blink in calm disbelief. Encircled by a Nightmare Serpenth and you are at peace. The dark glade feels more like a sanctuary now. With the fear gone, and your mind soothed, you can clearly recall the way home. But you don’t want to leave just yet. He opens his wings gently lets you down on the stone floor of a room.

The roots protruding from the stone walls and ceiling betrays that fact you are underground. In his lair he has collected many things and many minions. The things include favorite books, and a collection of plushies (mostly serpents and serpenths). The minions are playful here, but their appearance would frighten you if you met them outside. That is why they stay here. They are tired of being hurt and tired of hurting others. This is a sanctuary for them, etched out of the bedrock beneath the old willow tree.
