I blasted through a lot of different forms before I arrived at this one - demons can do that you know.
>Rakover's annotation: Actually he was stuck at the lab being repeatedly experimented on, until Zvi broke him out. Granted, she'd also watched a lot of that experimentation with rapt and morbid fascinated, so I wouldn't call her jail break an act of mercy so much as one of curiosity.
>Zvi's annotation: Nonsense. I broke him out when I realized he wasn't dead.
>Rakover's annotation: Demons aren't technically alive or dead.
I have been tasked by the Powers That Be to keep an eye on this small child. Of course she isn't what she seems - there's a dragon's soul inside that small blue human body - but I'm not sure that that's what they have me watching her for. I'm not sure about the reasons at all, actually, since there's no way that she needs to be tempted into creating more chaos or getting into more mischief, and she dallies in the dark arts more than anyone her size has any right doing. The only thing she's falling short of is committing straight up acts of evil. We don't actually tempt folks to get up to that as often as you might think. We just have to disrupt the order and harmony that the angels are trying to inspire folks to do.
>Rakover's annotation: She still might. She's got time.
It's not up to me to understand the orders I'm given though, so here I am, lounging about in a immaculately kept garden (Ntseni's doing, definitely influenced by an angel), watching this child bark confusing orders at her dog, her blob that she thinks is a dog, and the beaver-shaped experiment that thinks he's a dog, as she instructs them in a game she's invented. The rules seem changeable and the prospects of anyone winning, dubious. One of Phosphore's schoolmates, the vampire one, saunters by, observes for a moment, then snorts and says "Good work."
The thing is, I'm not doing anything. She's like this all on her own - so why am I here? I will take the credit even though it's not due me, though - I'm a demon after all - so I say nothing as he let's himself out the gate.
I should also mention that it's the middle of the night, which you might have figured out by now, considering the vampire.
There are plenty of other "noble" folks I could be setting my sights on in this house, but I'm not about to "go above and beyond" or log any hours I'm not being paid for, so I let them alone, even though it would be more worth my time to whisper dirty thoughts to Arlo or self-doubts to Torion. I could even egg on Absolum's tempers or --

>Rakover's annotationn: Ahem. No one needed to see that.
>Zvi's annotation: Such a spoilsport.
Instead, I watch this child stomp her feet and grow increasingly loud in her demands, until Arlo sticks her head out the window to whisper yell, "Zvi! Some of us are trying to sleep!" while Ntseni adds a grumbled, "Shut up," in case Zvi didn't catch the point, and Zvi argues loudly back that everyone is being stupid and not listening to directions, and Arlo looks at Tor and says, "You don't have to take this, you know," to which Tor just stares back at her with sad loyal dog eyes, and then Nathen bumbles off, distracted by a firefly, and Zvi thinks about screaming - you can see it on her face, should I influence her to start screaming? - and then throws herself down in the grass with a frustrated scream-growl and I should mention that even though she throws a lot of these tantrums, Absolum still has her beat.
>Rakover's annotation: Ha!
Sometimes she goes poking around in graveyards and bogs and other places she doesn't belong, looking for trouble. Sometimes she politely runs errands for folks around town, but she sticks her tongue out at them behind their backs, so I don't feel threatened by this. Plus, she's doing it for a selfish reason: cash. She's a vegan, but the vegan food industry is nearly as corrupt as the meat industry, so I don't really see that as an issue either. She bullies everyone and manipulates the rest of them, her personal style is an eyesore, her voice is grating, her persona like a bad smell you picked up and now can't get rid of. Everything she does is in her own interest. She's basically perfect already. I send daily missives informing my superiors of this, but my orders never change. And I'm starting to wonder - are they scared of her? Are they having me watch her, because they genuinely don't know what she's going to do next?
>Zvi's annotation: It's those daily missives. You're making me sound too entertaining. I'm like their favorite TV channel.
Whatever the reason, for now, all I really have to entertain myself with is occasinally shaking the house, slamming the cupboards like a regular poltergeist, spiking Zvi's annoyance whenever I really get bored, and sending as many bad spirits her way as I can when she goes hunting for them in swamps and ruins. She's never phased by any of it, and this might be partly because she's always been able to see me, as can Rakover, and Problobly, and Phosphore, and all her often visiting friends, which means I've also given up trying to be incorporeal to anyone else. It's just not worth the effort. Plus, once they start believing I'm there, they start to see me anyway. At least the edges of me anyway.
So here I am, a fully visible demon, lazy as a summer's day, watching a child who's already chaos incarnate because she makes Hell nervous. Apparently.
>Zvi's annoations: giggles evilly
Also because she did break me out of that hellhole, and I guess I might owe her a favor. Which is pretty much the most horrible thing a demon can owe. I keep hoping she'll get in a scrape bad enough that I can rescue her from it, and we'll be even. But I can't influence the scrape, or it won't count. And she's incredibly resourceful about getting herself out of sticky situations. Maddeningly so, actually.
>Zvi's annotation: Gee, thanks!
>Rakover's annoation: Stop giving her a big head.
It's probably against regulation to even keep a journal, but what else am I supposed to do? This is the most boring gig I've ever had, and I've been around for along time.
>Zvi's annotation: Oh stop whinging. You wouldn't leave even if you could.
Besides journaling, I might even have to take up a second hobby. Knitting, perhaps. Miniatures. Maybe mini golf. It's like early retirement, and I'm just watching the younger generation take off and do it badder than ever, with nostalgic tears misting my eyes. It's like an endless August, the kind where you can't seem to drag yourself off the sofa because that would mean leaving the coolness of the fan, and you're making up for eleven months of bad sleep, and you keep listening to sad folk boy music even though it's just making you sadder.
I can't have become un-useful, can I have? Surely they're not shelving me. Surely -
>Rakover's annotation: Apparently the introspection became too much for him at this point, and he ran off, never to take up journaling again, as the rest of the pages are blank. Still, I have added it to the record, as a candid insight into our daily lives.
>Zvi's annotation: Which was totally never meant for my eyes, but surprise, Rak! I found your secret stuff! Also Tar is great at mini golf now. Such a retiree thing to do...
>Rakover's annotation: Not all of my secrets...
