leone is the second to die, murdered by the same hand that took the life of the first, but fate did not see fit to treat him the same, to bestow upon him the bizarre experience of undeath.
there was no reanimation, no second chance, nothing even close.
just a dead body on the ground, laying in a pool of its own blood.

bruno says nothing, but the sorrow and guilt course through him, and the force with which he bites his own lip to keep himself from speaking is enough to make it bleed.
(this happened because of him, of his order, his efforts to do what he could to save a man from the edge of disaster, only to drag him into this life instead. only the knowledge that there are others still depending on him keeps him from dwelling on the thought that -- maybe, possibly -- leaving him to his prior fate may have been more kind.)

narancia is the third to die, and this is the one that finally breaks him, bruno's fingers curling into fists as tears roll down his face, unable to hide any of it and by far past the point of caring.

it's just- so goddamn unfair, he was just a kid, he barely even got to exist and enjoy life and do all that those his age are supposed to be able to do.

you should have stayed away, he thinks to himself, temporarily unable to speak. you should have fucking listened to me and taken the chance to live as far from all of this as possible, and--

but he hadn't. and now look where that had gotten the boy.
another dead body on the dirt. another death wrought by his leader's miserable incompetency. another set of nigh-on infinite weights of guilt made up of all the things that should have been said and done to protect him better, because he was good at heart, because he deserved that.

narancia had deserved to live. bruno is more certain of that than anything else.
(but can you truly suffer from survivor's guilt when your own life has long since been lost?)
