What is Bixbite? (Red Beryl)

"Bixbite", known today as Red Beryl, is an extremely rare form of beryl. It is primarily known for its deep red hue, which is attributed to trace amounts of manganese within it.
The Wah Wah Mountains of Utah is the only place in the entire world that red beryl can be found in high enough quality to facet. The Utah Geological Survey estimates that for every 150,000 gem-quality diamonds found, there is only one red beryl crystal discovered.
"Bixbite" was named for the man who discovered it, Maynard Bixby, in 1904. The name "Bixbite" has since been retired by the World Jewelry Federation, due to confusion with bixbyite; another mineral named for the same man.
