She does not know when she first came to be.

Perhaps she always existed, but only grew aware of it recently... though "recently" is an ill-defined term to an ageless being.

She exists; what more is there to say of the matter?

She was, at one time, a pale spirit, flitting aimlessly through the world with barely a care, and yet there was a hunger that gnawed at her--some strange urge which dug at the edges of her consciousness.

She occasionally came in contact with other beings of spirit and beings of flesh. Some held her interest for a few fleeting moments (what is a moment, to one who lives for ages?), but mostly she kept moving from place to place--grassy field to brackish marsh, chill mountainside to soft sand beach, wide golden desert to hot wet rainforest.

Eventually, she came to the realization that what she wanted was a place of her own.

She found one in a quiet forest far from civilization, and as her essence sank into the rocks, trees, plants, and soil of the place, she felt a deep sense of satisfaction.
