-----People would often find him in small, isolated corners, either struggling to get inside a trash can to find some food to eat or simply sleeping soundly beside the dumpster. Despite his small and fragile build, most would notice that he was not from the streets. At least not originally. The puppy must have proudly displayed a vivid orange coat once, with a rather interesting collection of markings that ranged from different shades of orange and white, but now it was merely a dull kind of orange. It was a kind of color that resembled a rotten orange – dirty, lifeless, and ugly. Most would often see him sleeping, but to those fortunate enough to see him awake, they would most probably become aware of his eyes. Pale green and transparent. The way that he moves around the streets, though, looks as if he could see, so it surprises some when they accidentally trip on him or step on his long, furry tail, realizing that the poor thing is actually blind.

-----He wasn’t blind, though. At least not until after the accident. Cider vaguely remembers himself working his way through the streets, brushing himself on people’s ankles, hoping for some food scraps, but getting a shove out of the way instead. He had just been abandoned the moment after his previous owner realized that he had no sense of sight, and this left him hungry, desperate, and alone. Right after retreating to some store’s trash can, he began climbing on top until he felt himself reach the top. His paws clawed at nothing, and before he could stop himself, he fell down, smashing his snout into who-knows-what. His heightened sense of smell blurred into a combination of raw meat, leftover food, and what must be some soup. He started licking off some of the food when some sort of smell caught his nose.

-----He stopped licking and sniffed. He followed his sense of smell until his dry puppy nose touched something cold and hollow, from the sound of it. Something like glass. Cider tried finding his way through the bottle’s lid until his small tongue tasted something bitter and sour at the same time. He snapped his head back in disgust, and, being blind, had to relocate the bottle. As disgusting as it tasted, the aftertaste was unique – different from food scraps and spoiled milk, and it made Cider want to drink more. Before he knew it, Cider had finished the bottle’s remaining liquor, and has fallen asleep.

-----Slowly, he rolled over until his belly faced the sky, and the cold breeze that met his face told him that it must be night time. Before he could notice it, he already dozed off, knowing all too well that he would have yet another dreamless sleep.

-----Instead, he found himself waking up, or at least he thought he woke up. He turned his body around so he could stand up, and then he noticed the glint of white shine in the wine bottle. There was some sort of scribbly writing, and Cider only saw the word “Expe…nt”. Suddenly, he blinked again and again, until he was sure that he wasn’t hallucinating. For some reason, he could see. He wasn’t blind. Something must have been in that…wine. Cider whimpered softly. That mustn’t have been wine, but he knew it was beyond his knowledge to know what was in there. He decided to celebrate his newfound sight by scrambling out of the trash can and admiring the first things he saw – stars. They twinkled on the sky like countless dots, sparkling and shining in some magical way, fascinating Cider like some child who had just seen some wonderful toy.

-----After a while, however, his vision started blurring. Cider shuddered; he dreaded the moment of losing his vision, but he knew it was inevitable. He was destined to be blind, to beg for food and probably starve to death. In a matter of seconds, his vision had become another endless black. He sighed.

-----Somehow his paws felt numb, and only after he’d rolled onto his back did he realize that he was dreaming. It was morning now – he could hear birds chirping their songs happily, and his nose could smell the scent of fresh bread being baked somewhere. Instead of scavenging for food scraps, Cider decided to force himself to sleep, and sure enough, he could see again. Temporarily, that is, but at least he could see, and that made Cider happier that he’d ever been. To see something, even the disgusting, mushy leftover meals at his paws, was a beautiful sight.

-----Upon knowing his strange ability to see through his dreams, Cider has started spending most of his time sleeping, and would only occasionally beg for food or find another trash can to sleep in for the night. In fact, his body has adapted to his habits that he could now last for a long time before eating. Most people would wonder if the small puppy, with his once-vibrant orange coat and pale, blind eyes, was dead or starving to death, but Cider would breathe heavily, and the people would see this, think, Oh, he’s sleeping, so he’s not dead, and walk away, not having a clue that this puppy was watching. Watching the scene play out. Seeing. In his dreams.

-----Cider is a small puppy with large ears and a long, busy tail. His fur is a combination of bright and dark oranges and white. His eyes are a pale, transparent green color, indicating the loss of his sense of sight. On the left side of his mouth, you can see a small fang sticking out of his mouth. Because of his diet, his body is thin in stature.
