Policy stood in the doorway of the court room about to walk in when he heard a familiar voice. “Your tie's crooked, let me” His longtime friend Crime had snuck up on him and was standing in front of him now.”Can't defend the weak with a crooked tie.” She said as she straightened the tie out.“What did you do?”Crime smiled and went to change the subject.”Hey Habeas.”She reached over and patted the Kelly who was Policy's constant companion.“Crime.”Crime huffed. “I liberated a book from a store today.” Policy just shook his head.”You know if you'd stay out of trouble you wouldn't have to be here all the time.” He said as he motioned her to move forward.“But then you'd be in court with a crooked tie, besides I didn't get caught this time, I'm here for E.”Crime said.Policy nodded and wouldn't let her go farther, he'd already have to excuse himself from the case, because he knew the defendant. Not a good way to start the work week.He went over to his desk and was reading the case that was typed in Braille with his hands and sure enough the case was for E. “All rise.”Everyone in the courtroom stood then sat when instructed.“Before we start your honor.” Policy said standing. “I will have to be excused from the case. I know the defendant and I wouldn't be objective in this case.”He waited for the judge to be upset since it cost a lot to get cases transcribe to Braille for him, so he wasn't expecting when the judge said.“Court will get a new lawyer for the case, we will take a recess so the replacement can be found.”Policy picked up his briefcase and headed out the door, it was no use staying in there when he had nothing to do, and he could always go read up in his law journals.
