He'll never wish for the sun, but sometimes the moon isn't enough.

Its fickle and not always in the sky, just like the stars. The sun is always there in the morning and leaves at the night, its what dictates what is daytime and nighttime after all. The moon though is sometimes visible during the day, abandoning him in the night, an inconstant companion in the quieter hours of the day. Clouds can block them both out clearer than the sun as well, leaving the night pitch black and menacing. Its the world he lives in, and the world he's doomed to.

He's not the first, but Vincent Charles is definitely not the last either. He was changed in the mid-Victorian era and has hid most of his life. Money and riches come well for those who don't spend it, and pockets are high for picking when he walks the streets at night, from weaving between drunkards that won't notice.

Convincing a young wealthy lady to give you her all is easy as well, his blood the last in a line of a few wealthy families of old blood. When children can never happen from a dead body, it leaves all the money with him and the end there. Vincent doesn't mind though, children and siring any new vampires has never been a choice of his, alive or not.

He's never picked up a lover either, the thought of giving himself away for eternity has never been one. It isn't the matter of being mysterious or dark. Its practicality. Who wants to love a man who won't change you and is ever living? He can't walk with you on the beach at sunset or sunrise, or take walks in the park. At most he'll have a moonlit stroll with you in the forest, he won't hold your hand or even touch you. Most of his nights he's busy trying to stay alive, the need to feed a high priority on Vincent's list of things to do.

He won't say he regrets taking lives in the beginning, his ability to drain life from others a bit out of hand, though as he's progressed through the years he's learnt better. When people die, fingers get pointed to the odd ones; the ones you only see at night and hermit away during the day time. His door has already had the authorities at it a few times, and on the bad days there's nothing left of them by the end of the night. If only humans were akin to him and had to have permission before they could barge inside...

There were days in Vincent's past where others found out about him, the religious ones who had no faith attacking him on sight, leaving him with no other option but to defend and kill. Those who had faith often tried to convert him or convince him maybe death was a better option; and sometimes, he honestly thought it was the better choice. In the end though, life was always better. In that awkward not alive but living way. Life is a fickle thing, isn't it?

Kind of just like the moon.
