Diedric is rather cold, pessimistic, and doesn’t like most people. He likes being alone, has a bit of that ‘lone wolf’ attitude. Because of this, Diedric is constantly trying to push people away and can be cruel. He doesn’t like to talk, and likes things to go as simple as possible with the least amount of effort on his part. He’s far from lazy, just sees most things as a bother.
He’s extremely stubborn. He’s always right, and everyone else is wrong. However, when his views are proven untrue, he can get a little flustered. Diedric doesn’t do well with change. He likes to do things his own way, on his own time. He can be broody at times when things don’t go his way. Diedric can be a rather thoughtful person, he can sit for hours watching the sunset and just thinking.
Diedric is also extremely blunt. He says what he means, and what he thinks. Usually. This has gotten him in some trouble before, but he doesn’t care. He values honesty a lot, for someone in the profession that he is in. But really, it is only because he does like things simple. Complex people or issues frustrate him and he gets angry.
A lot of his anger stems from the fact Diedric has had very little contact with people outside his mercenary band, which is not much for socializing. He doesn’t like the fact that he doesn’t understand people, and therefore, to save himself the trouble, just pushes them away. No matter how secretly painful that is.

Diedric doesn’t particularly remember his family. His parents were likely poor folk, and he was left of the steps of a thief guild as a child. They took him in, and he was trained to fight at a young age. While he was still a child, Diedric was a rather good thief. He had the smarts and the skills to use to gain what he needed to survive, and pay back his guild. However, as he grew, it was easy to see Diedric’s stature was not meant to sneak. He was a strong and powerful young man.
So he left at the age of sixteen, travelling about the kingdom until he came across a band of mercenaries. He was told he could stay, so long as he could show his strength by defeating one of the mercenaries in a match. Diedric failed the first time, and grew determined. He followed the band, training himself, until he challenged the man again and won. Diedric has lived as a mercenary since and gained quite the reputation.
He’s recently been contracted by the royal family of his homeland. They had captured one of his former guild mates, and in exchange for gold and a pardon for his crimes, Diedric was forced to take a job. He was to kidnap the rival kingdom’s prince, Sealiah, and bring him back safe and whole to hold for ransom.
While Diedric acts as if he doesn’t care, and as if this is just another job, he secretly hates that he’s been trapped into the royal family’s plot. Perhaps it is one of the reasons he’s become so bitter. Claus, his little Surdyh, has been with him since he was inducted into the thief guild and is one of the few things that Diedric doesn’t seem to hate. He was given him by a senior member, as a companion. Claus is well trained, and knows a fair amount of thieving himself.
Diedric captured the prince fairly easily, watching him for days until he learned that the prince enjoyed walks on his own in the kingdom’s garden. They have been travelling together for some time now, making the long journey back to Diedric’s home country. Sealiah , of course, is not fond of him, and Diedric cannot stand the other’s princely attitude most days.
But as the two have travelled, Diedric has more often gone off alone to think. He’ll do it as the other bathes or is asleep, but he’s always alone. Diedric does not think the need he feels to protect Sealiah, is simply for the money. Or rather, just for the money anymore. It bothers Diedric that he can’t understand it. And even now, he contemplate turning back, and returning the prince to his rightful place.
