That's why we only promote the most accomplished of angels to be one!"[/i][/align]

Honestly, this was something she had heard a thousand times. It had been a difficult climb for her, one hoof in front of the other, to even get past entry level. No matter how hard she tried, how much she pushed herself, it felt like she always managed to mess something up. Even still, she kept right on trying, and all that hard work had paid off for something at least.

It had taken her who knew how many centuries, but slowly - excruciatingly slowly - she had worked her way up to Angelic Receiver, checking the books for when new arrivals were approved to enter the gates and directing them to their new lodgings. Sure, there had been some mishaps and mistakes here and there, but for the most part, she had managed her spot fairly respectably!

Which was precisely why she had finally approached her superiors about that coveted position of guardian angel. For the hundredth time, the managing cherub had laughed in her face, and she felt her ears starting to droop, tail tucked firmly against her rump. Not this time, either...

But just as she was starting to walk away, she noticed someone looking at her. Graceful and elegant, the seraphim were the cream of the crop. You didn't ask about promotions to that position: it was bestowed upon you, sometimes without warning. This seraph was watching her quite carefully, and finally she turned, padding over with a thoughtful look. "You wish to be a guardian angel?"

She nodded emphatically, doing her best not to prance about as she did. "Oh, yes! I've always wanted to!"

"I do not think that is such a bad idea." The seraph smiled, her expression kind, as she turned to the cherub in charge of promotions. "We may consider this a test run. Do we have someone in need...?"

After a moment or so of dismayed sputtering, the cherub huffed and gave a short nod. "I believe I have the perfect one for our friend here..."

The seraph dipped her head, settling her wings as she turned to head toward the meeting place of the highest order. "Then make it so."

She didn't even have time to register what the seraph had said. Before she knew it, she found herself careening out of control until she crashed head-first into a flower bed. The soul she had been sent to guard just stared down at this bewildered creature.

"Who the heck are you?!"

Blinking a few times as she gathered her bearings, she finally gave a sheepish smile. "Hi there. I'm your new guardian angel."
