Hufflepuff scurried through the Forbidden Forest, wand raised and teeth chattering. Her bottom thumped from side to side as she trudged through the uneven terrain. Dusk had almost turned into night, and there was nothing but the tip of her wand to guide her. Finally she reached the clearing, and slid into a crouch to catch her breath. One of the professors had seen her, she was sure of it! That was a worry for tomorrow.

She took a closer look at the object she had been clutching in her non-wand hand. It lit up her paw and her eyes dilated to adjust to the rune's glow. Its violet hue clashed sharply with the colour of her fur, but she felt comforted by the sight of it in her possession. Hufflepuff walked toward the sundial in the centre of the clearing. It held no use at that late hour, or so she once had thought.

With an iota of trepidation, she reached out and placed the rune in the sixth hole on the face of the dial, the only one unoccupied. The rune glowed next to its five brilliantly bright sisters, and Hufflepuff waited, eyes wide, for the miracle to appear.
