Deven was the youngest child in his family, with one brother who was older by ten years. When he was young, he got along very well with his family. He and his brother were close and he had good relationships with his mother and father too. He loved the outdoors, running around, getting dirty, and making noise.

When Deven was eight years old, he joined a soccer team for fun and did quite well. It was there that he met his future bandmates, and as he continued to play soccer through elementary school, he and his friends lost interest in the sport. Deven began taking drum lessons and he and his friends tried to form a band as they moved on to middle school.

About this same time, Deven realized that he wasn't attracted to girls like his friends were. Instead, he had formed a crush on another boy and it wasn't going away. He told his brother in confidence, but Cadell was horrified. He called Deven a fag and a freak, and refused to speak to him for months. After that, whenever his older brother did bother to say anything to him, it was usually laced with malice and disappointment. On better occasions, Cadell turns to denial instead, trying to set his brother up on dates with girls, or convince him that he should be straight.

By the end of high school, Deven's band, dubbed "3:10 Escape," was actually doing pretty well. They'd managed a couple paying gigs and had a bit of a fanbase going, though it mostly consisted of their classmates. All four band members, including Deven, moved into Centropolis loft together. Their band became more popular and they definitely play enough to pay rent.

They lived together for four years until Deven met Idol one night after playing at a local club. The two of them were standing out back and Idol offered him a light for his cigarette. Deven invited him out for a bite to eat and they ended up back at Idol's place. Since then, their relationship has grown and Deven moved in with him.

About a year and a half later, Idol gave Deven a ring and they promised themselves to each other. It's made Deven quite happy when he never thought he would find someone like Idol.
