There is much about the deep sea that we do not know, much that has been unexplored. My name is Isiah Sullan, and I am a marine biologist. I am tracking the tales that have been told by seafarers for centuries of a great sea monster that lurks beneath the depths. The entry below was that of a pirate, telling a story he had heard of the sea monster; I am not sure If this monster exists, but if it does I hope to find it.

I had heard the stories, of a great beast that inhabited the deep waters of the ocean. They were passed around from sailor to sailor, bandied about in taverns at seaside ports over drinks, told to wenches between the sheets by the sailors they bedded. The stories were always the same, a sailor that fell into the water, by chance, by happenstance, never to be seen again. A ship destroyed, pulled down into the watery depths.

The nature and size of the creature changed from man to man. It was a giant octopus, huge, monstrous, or a giant whale, larger than any ship, able to consume a man in an instant and pull ships down to a watery grave.
They said the beast made a sound, a low sonorous song before its arrival, beautiful in its sound, and a mark of danger to come. I am lucky that I have never come across this beast, lucky, I suppose that my shipmates and I are safe and sound as can be on the open sea.
