In a chair across from you, a young Sheeta with black and purple markings is fussing over a tank swarming with small, red fish. She turns and smiles at you warmly, her violet eyes sparkling. "Just in time," she chirps. "I was just about to feed them. It's really fascinating...won't you come have a look?"
You look to the walls and realize, aghast, that the room is filled ceiling to floor with thousands of lighted tanks, filled with every kind of fish you have ever seen in your life--and some you have never even heard of. There are cute little koi fish, and bubble-eyed goldfish, and even large ones from the depth of the oceans with sharp teeth and gaping jaws...how did they all get here, you wonder?
She senses your question before you have the chance to voice it. "I collect and breed them here," she explains. "I have over a thousand, but I'm still finding new species all the time. There are so many of them, sometimes I wonder if I'll ever discover all of their secrets."
"Secrets?" you ask. This chick must be off her head--what secrets could a bunch of fish have anyway?
Her soft smile turns to a frown and she sighs disappointedly. Should couldn't have heard that...could she? "There's so much we don't know about the world," she tells you, shaking her head sadly. "Over 70% of the earth is covered with water, you know. Haven't you ever wondered what's down there, where none of us can go? Aren't you curious?"
You nod your head yes, trying to hide your thoughts from the probing of her Amethyst eyes. You watch her turn around and stick her paws back in the aquarium, coaxing a small fish to come closer...
You turn around and walk quickly from the building, closing the door behind you with a terrified snap.
Yes, she must be completely out of her mind. Talks to fish...what a crackpot.
