NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIES MAKE IT OUT TO BE

The Mafia was rumored to be cruel, humorless, and quick to kill. The Mafia was also rumored to be kind, honorable and passionate. It all depended on who you asked.

If you asked Rosuto about the assistance he offered to the Mafia, he would tell you that it was the best decision he ever made.

It was also the decision that killed him.

Rosuto lived in the days of Al Capone, an owner of a small well-to-do restaurant in the business district. The restaurant also hid various members of the Mafia when they needed a place to stay, a place to heal, and most importantly, a place to eat. Rosuto never minded them--the Mafia, because the Mafia kept him safe.

They also tried to keep him safe the day that the police stormed into the restaurant. The police came with guns--lots of them--the Mafia came with guns--even more of them. Rosuto felled three of the policemen before he was shot once in the chest with a standard-issue handgun, his body never to be found again.

Saddest moment of his life.

He was given a proper burial, body being buried in cement when the Mafia decided to fix up the restaurant a bit in gratitude. After all, being riddled with holes and various broken things wasn't good for a business. They still stayed there, occasionally, but only for the food and to console Rosuto's wife and daughter.

Rosuto's life was cut short that sunny day in November, and Death was feeling a little peckish when Rosuto landed at his feet. So the two of them made a deal--if Rosuto could sate Death's hunger, then Rosuto could live, albeit a little differently than other mortals. Rosuto was all too happy to whip a couple of plates of pasta for Death to eat, and Death ate them.

He also liked them. He'd never tried human food before--only various pieces of corpses that his chefs would bring him.

Rosuto was, at first, to be Death's personal chef, but Death was a man of his word. Rosuto was to live on Earth with other humans, much to Death's chagrin. Rosuto offered to be Death's grocery shopper and Death reluctantly agreed, though he wasn't sure how Rosuto would get the food from his realm and back. Interdimensional travel was exhausting and taxing on the soul.

Death then peered into Rosuto's wounded chest, prying it open with his cold hands. THIS WILL DO FINE, he said in his capitalized and italicized voice, and sealed the hole with a strange metal unique to Death's home. It was done--the framework for the portal, but it needed a little spark to get it going. Death then reached into a small bag of demons and his hand appeared with a small smoke demon, hissing and spitting as it was held between Death's index finger and thumb.

The 'spark' worked and Rosuto was thrust back to live on Earth.

Rosuto was excited at first, deciding to talk to many people, but his excitement was curbed when he remembered the deal: ONLY MURDERERS CAN SEE YOU. Rosuto didn't much mind talking to various police officers and the occasional serial killer at first, but he got a little lonely. The smoke demon occasionally hissed and threw a fit when Rosuto talked to someone, and it had a personality of its own. It liked eating pulled pork and barbecued foods and when it ate, it ate messily, like a child at a picnic.

"Bambino," Rosuto suggested, of course thinking that the smoke demon was, in fact, male.

The smoke demon was not amused and insisted on being called Bambini, the feminine form of Bambino. So Bambini the smoke demoness was named and Rosuto had someone he could talk to without making him or her feel guilty.

Despite Rosuto's dark past, he still manages to keep a good outlook on most things--the weather, the good in demons--but when met with most other things he's neither negative nor positive. He's firmly negative when it comes to the American government, however. He has a lovable personality, though doesn't really understand sarcasm. He folds quickly under pressure and doesn't really fight for things he wants, but he's slowly learning how to be a little more assertive from Vallon.

We're not sure if this is a good thing or not.
