A rotund little nub at the base of the neck - it had grown since she had last checked on it. It couldn't have been more than a day since she had first spotted the thing!
No matter. She tugged her unkempt hair out of its customary loose bun, hiding the growth from sight. That would simply have to do - for now at least.

The falling city she inhabited (along with a few million other lost fools) was filled to the brim with incredibly fun little insects, vermin to all but the informed and the watchful. The disciplined amongst these were known to waste hours trudging around nature preserves, through crumbling buildings and even over heaps of muck just to get a glimpse of the less common of the creatures, and then spend further hours sketching them from memory. The grey drawings were fanciful, but nonetheless provided a welcome distraction.
