The thunderous noise of foot on pavement was at one point deafening. The roar of laughter, the slow mechanical creak as some of the older machines reached full speed, this place would brim with noise and with life. There used to be such vitality here.

In my prime, I participated in much of that vitality. The joy that I would see through our patrons was infectious and I reveled in every second of it. I remember a time where the cobblestone roads were filled with children accompanied by parent, filing into a jagged line waiting for admission. The gates would open, the tickets would be torn, and wonder would be revealed.

Now, in actuality, we really weren't much. Some late 1970's machinery, grimy food trucks that you would never eat at had they not been marked as 'Carnival Food', and some cheap prizes built on foreign labour - the politics of which will be saved for another day. I, being one of the latter, had the best view into the daily excitement of this place.
