The man was exhausted as the bell twanged twice, and he entered the little shop of curios in his frantic escape from the terrestrial downpour. As he closed his umbrella thankfully, large raindrops rolled round the brim of his hat and plopped merrily into the dusty floor. He apologized briefly for the small puddle created and thanked the shop owner for the hearty coffee mug offered.

Politely strolling around the premises as he sipped the steaming drink, the man caught sight of a stony wingtip, part of a large figurine stood on top of an overflowing cabinet. The shop owner praised him on his taste while cleaning the statue - after the dust had gone, it proved not to be made of stone at all, but instead of jade. The falcon statue was of a proud, majestic bird, with wings widespread in flight - albeit slightly chipped and with a hairline crack down one of these, its and character were very much still intact. The man thought of his dear wife and her love of aerial creatures. He tentatively asked for a price.

After much debate into the bird's complex workmanship, current post- clean lustre and remarkable Qing dynasty roots, the seller of curios sealed the deal with a handshake more hearty than his coffee and half a small roll of bubble wrap. Staggering a little under the weight, the man gave the large surprise under his arm a mild hoist and started on his way home in the sunshine, gleefully picturing his wife's reaction at the treasure she would soon unwrap.
