Like clockwork, Olie clocks out at 12:30 every afternoon to begin the process of eating lunch.
All of his papers will be stacked neatly into little piles around the edges of his desk. All the specimens are returned to their boxes—if he has to use them again later, they are placed to the side with the most reverent of cares. If not, he runs them back down to the stacks. Policy drafts and collection borrowing requests are double-saved for extra precaution. There are two meetings in the afternoon to make sure he's confirmed to attend and then plenty of database work to log in the new acquisitions. Once everything is satisfactory and not a single spec out of place, he unlocks the bottom drawer of his desk and pulls out several palm-sized rocks.
This is all he eats. This is all he can eat. The locked drawer at the bottom of his desk is always filled with them. At home, they sit in large bowls and platters on his counters, all within easy reach. The only dinnerware he owns is a singular pot with which to make instant mac-n-cheese because at the end of the day Olie is only a man, and a man with a macaroni and cheese craving at that.
