Ethelinda Saenger is almost always accompanied by her mechanical bull terrier which she named Theobald.

Ethelinda's manners were perfectly acceptable. Really. In the the rural town where she grew up at least. She'd occasionally gotten spoken to about tearing her skirt while climbing a fence, or a tree, and her petticoats were usually in need of a washing, to remove dust or mud. But for the most part she wasn't what anyone would call 'shocking'. But, then they'd moved to the city.

Her father worked as a consultant for various steamplants in 'the city' and had always travelled more than most in the neighbourhood. He had travelled by airship even! However, he'd been able to do much of his work through correspondence and so the family had been able to live in a small manor-house with a few servants and more luxuries than several families with larger homes and more servants could afford. When he did travel, Ethel's father would bring back ''ladies' journals'' for her mother because Mrs Saenger enjoyed keeping up on the latest city fashion and thinly-veiled gossip. Her mother could keep them updated on the latest hemlines for the coming season—all of her dresses had hemlines! what Ethelinda wanted to hear about things she didn't already know. For her, Ethel's father would bring her back a story. Some sight he had seen, or an activity he'd witnessed or just a building he had passed which had very unique architecture.

Ethel's father had finally needed to spend more time there, than home, and so decided to bring home with him. It should have been grand, and it was...most of the time. Her chance to actually go places and see things, do things, was hampered by the frowning of others. Her mother and father wanted her to fit in with the rigidly proper behaviour of other ladies her age, from her social rank. But embroidery was dull and attempting to flirt with young men to see how she matched against the attractive powers of other young women at a party was even duller.

She really doesn't act improperly. Not at all. Much. Most of the time she's a very good and polite young lady. But, there are times when something is just too interesting to leave alone. She asks permission before going out of course, always....but, she knows what time of day her father reads his trade journals and if she asks quietly enough, her mother won't overhear from the back sitting room. Which, is how she ends up in most of the trouble she gets.

We met at a masquerade ball held by one of the families I used to live near and after talking all evening you agreed to correspond. Your airship sounds amazing, remember me on your travels and I hope we meet again.
