As soon as the heavy iron door clanged shut behind them, he turned around to look at the figure towering over him.
"First order of business: don't tell anyone where we're staying. This is my side."
He gestured to a small area, inconspicuous and surrounded by dusty crates. There was a makeshift fire pit and a nest of ratty blankets and pillows on the ground, and several carefully-bound books sat on top of a windowsill.
"And that's yours."
He pointed across the warehouse towards the darkest corner. A leak in the roof was dripping water onto a rusted pipe, the drops scattering everywhere on impact. Plink. Plink. Plink.

He didn't want to call attention to it, but he had woken up yet again to the sound of the taller man shifting in his corner of the warehouse. Was he having nightmares? He remembered his days back home, back when he was much younger, when awful dreams would startle him awake. He would sit up and start crying, like the stupid immature baby he was, until.. until he would come through the doorway, quick but silent, with a little piece of foil in his hand and a glass of water in the other.
And then he would unwrap the foil and give his little brother a piece of chocolate because that's how he was. Perfect in every way--marks, looks, emotions.. it made him sick with jealousy. Just once, he would have liked to snatch those glasses off his brother's face and smash them on the floor, just to see how much it would upset him. On the outside he smiled, but somewhere, deep down, he felt his insides twist with self-disgust.
Rolling over and tangling himself further in his blankets, he became nervous at the prospect of the other man catching him listening and willed himself back to sleep.
