Corbin was "born" on Atebus, with a specific purpose. He was to work in the police force as a walking forensics lab. Whenever there has been a major crime, Corbin is transported to the scene in order to gather evidence.
Corbin's brain is a powerful computer which automatically stores all information about the cases he works with. He's also programmed to be able to access any file on any case stored on police servers, provided that his handler has the correct password, which changes daily. Corbin can to a certain degree think. He has no free will in the true sense of the word, nor does he have emotions the way a living being does, but he's programmed with very high artificial intelligence, and can make certain decisions on his own. Because of his hyper-alert senses, he will be aware of any danger long before his human handlers or their canine companions. He can process human speech from all languages on Subeta, and is able to reply through an automatic voice box.
Despite being capable of communicating with humans, Corbin seems to identify more with the dogs who also work for the police force. He seems to have studied their behavior, in order to communicate with them on their own level. Whether the dogs think he's one of them or not, isn't known, but Corbin has formed a sort of bond with a couple of them.
Every part of Corbin is specially designed and outfitted with the newest technology available. His eyes have infra-red scanners, to look for fingerprints, footprints, spots that have recently been cleaned and other things that are invisible to the naked eye. Each eye is also equipped with a 10 giga-pixel camera, used for taking very detailed crime-scene photos. In the dark, they can even function as strong flashlights.He can analyze pretty much any substance by eating it. His insides are filled up with tiny conveyor belts that transport the samples around to his different "organs" where chemical components are identified and DNA is profiled. The process is done on site, and the results are printed out from a slot on his chest.
In addition to all the advanced technology he carries around, Corbin is also darn near indestructible. He's cast from titanium, completely bullet-proof, water-proof, and able to withstand extremely high temperatures. In emergencies, special shields slide out to cover the sensory equipment. He's equipped with propellers in his shoulders and hip-joints to allow him to stay floating if he should become submerged in water. If need be, his jaws are plenty strong enough to cut a chain. He can kick in a steel door in a matter of seconds. Having four jointed legs, he's also a lot more mobile than a wheeled unit.
The one thing Corbin is not outfitted with is a moral compass, due to not having emotions. He knows the laws, he knows what is legal and not, but he doesn't know right from wrong in any given situation. In the wrong hands, he would be a very powerful weapon. To prevent his powers from being abused, he's been programmed to not take orders from anyone who's not in his face-recognition software, or who does not carry the special chip-card that green-lights him for action.
Corbin's Minion, Jethro, is a portable mini-version of himself, much less advanced but able to crawl into pipes, drains and other tight spaces. Among his "extra" equipment is also Nigel the Gnasher, the previous incarnation of his mini-me. Badly tempered and with faulty AI, Nigel is best used for cutting wire.
