Quark is an enigma.
They – for they are not one, but a unified colony of thousands of scintillating, singular beings – are the only one of their kind (not counting the multitude of individuals making up the entirety of their body, in which case they can be said to be one of many; many of one) as well as the only known individual to possess the ability to resist the passing of Time. This, as those who know Time might expect, annoys Time very, very much.
Time is a man of order; of logic. He intends for the universe and its inhabitants to always move forward in a linear fashion. Forever onward into the darkness of the cosmos until their hourglasses upon his gilded ship finally drop their last grain, never to step backwards along the horizontal plane of existence, nor to fill their glass vessels up again with the sands of life. But Quark, a strange being from no plane of existence ever known to even a god such as Time, has somehow found the way to do the impossible, to move themselves backwards and forwards, up, down, around, and through all planes and directions within the timeline of the universe.
Such is not possible. Time’s logic says so, and no being knows the concept of time better than the Father himself. Yet, Quark can do this against all known laws of existence.
So, Time, in his great sailboat of gold, chases Quark; chases them across the vast ocean of stars, hoping to one day catch them, and question them. Perhaps eliminate them, if need be. Quark never seems to mess with any timelines they breech. Thus far, they are a simple observer of things to have passed and things to come. But that does not mean that one day they will try to meddle with the fabric of history. That could be disastrous, perhaps even spelling out the end of the universe.
Time’s familiar says he is overreacting, that Quark is nothing but a harmless entity having a little bit of equally harmless fun. Naturally, Time does not believe his feline apprentice, so onward he rides, with Quark forever on his magical radar.
In the far reaches of space, always vastly ahead of Time’s pursuit, the entity that is Quark, can only laugh.
