This room is not empty. There is the hustle and bustle of exchanged glances, just glimpses of meaningful, yet subtle signals all very well concealed by the dust shifting into the light. This dust is thick, caked onto tops of high shelves, or in corners, nestled into unused desks and creased floor tiles.
Their eyes blink in disgust, pupils shrinking, ever smaller. Some narrow their lids. Others stare blankly, and at first appear shy. However, it becomes quite clear that this shyness is caused not by self-doubt, but of a fear that setting one's sights upon such a pitied and hated creature would somehow create their own misfortune. The way people try to ignore the baked, the crippled, the homeless, or the unambitious, these people stare.
