winter breath took the best of me
[ cold-hearted, sarcastic, nonchalant ]

Became frigid from the touch of a frozen vial on 11/13/09

There was a buzz going around in the lightly frosted forest. No longer was Spring the issue but obviously something more serious, far more dangerous, had appeared in Zurui's story. Gossip could be heard from left to right, she needed facts, something relevant, but the only way she could sincerely know were if she could see it herself. Walking deeper into the woods, passing families and any social life, she reached the very beginning of her homeland, an empty snowfield. This was probably the last spot with the most amount of snow, the only place where the sun had troubles shining upon. Her minions who traveled behind her were only making the situation more nerve wrecking than what was acceptable. She gave each of the little ones a specific look that only they could understand and the two quickly hopped away. It was just her. Off in the distance, on the other side of the plot, a large animal walked confidently from the darkness. He sniffed the air as he took steps in her direction and since he was so far away it did take a while but with each passing moment her heart raced more and more in anger. She was truly hoping the rumors were not true but they were. And so he comes to a stop, a few feet from her, and says:

"I don't know who you are but if don't listen to everything I am going to say, trust that your neck will be snapped off."

“Wait, WHAT?” she thought to herself.

This male Kumos had the AUDACITY to walk onto her lands expecting to take control.

“You are sadly mistaken if you think you are going to overrule me. You need to move downwind unless you think you can take on me, I am the leader here but I earned that title by respect.”

"Bah! Who says you own this territory? You are only a Sheeta so how could you possibly lead anything or anyone?"

Zurui's low level of patience was wearing thin with this creature but she also understood that she had so much at risk. This was a touchy subject that has not come up since her last encounter with a Telenine many years ago.

“If you knew the first rule of leadership you would know you need respect. I've lived here for centuries and not only do they respect me but they also know I am their shield as well. When something goes wrong, I am there, and at this moment you're our problem.”

His lip curled up, only on one side, for the Kumos was becoming irritated. It was most certainly not the answer he was expecting from a mammal he views as merely a peasant in most cases.

"Oh, so with that statement you expect me to walk away now, right?" he snickered.

Even as petite as she may be, Zurui struts up to him, standing right in front of his body, lifts her head so that they were literally an inch away from smashing their noses into one another, and blantantly says

“Damn straight.”

That was the final blow, the Kumos had enough and it was time to get serious.

"Well then! How do you suppose you are going to stop me if I start making the decisions around here?"

“That's a stupid question. I might be able to bare children and I may not be a Kumos but that does not mean I am not more than willing to force my own horns into your jugular vein!”

"Oh, so you think this is a joke huh?"

“The only joke here is you, foul sir.”

"If I am such a joke then I quess you won't mind if I chew on your little friends over there, eh?"

Suddenly the mood changed, Zurui's eyes bulged out and her large ears became increasingly heavier than usual....for a moment her heart stopped. Earlier she had demanded Lo and Ve to stay low in their self-made hideout so how could he have possibly known their location?

“I will NOT have you threatening me with their lives at hand! They have done nothing and you will regret those words!”

He laughs, "Try me?"

The next morning was unusually quiet, the leftover snow still melting, grass blades no longer displaying death. Lo and Ve cautiously peep out of the small log they remained in during the entire fight. They had remember Zurui's last words that night and respected her wishes. Squeezing their tiny bodies out of their "secret" location, Ve couldn't help but breakdown in tears, her eyes staring at Zurui's body lying lifelessly on the cold ground. Lo, the blue male, asked Ve to remain in the location where she was sulking. He looked back at the battlefield and began to make his way towards their closest friend. As he got closer his sight shifted to the other body next to the Sheeta's. It was definitely the Kumos and it was not a pretty picture at all. His eyes were open yet his body was still as death, there was no life in him at all. Lo became very nervous but suddenly Zurui's chest began to inflate/deflate and so on. Almost fainting, Lo rushed to Zurui, slid in the small patch of snow, and around her neck to look at her face. She slowly opened her eyes and after a quick smile she slowly pulled herself onto her feet, failing a few times with her weakened legs at fault. Ve's dwarth ears slightly lifted in excitement, the largest cheek to cheek smile she could ever show was apparent. The event may not have been long but thankfully it wasn't unfortunate.
