Legacy Name: Myles

A long time ago, a young soldier named Myles was left to die alone in the Black Forest. In the leaves and roots and branches of this forest was a strange, latent magic, that the unsettled spirit became tangled in upon leaving it's body. Trapped in the canopy, the lost spirit eventually took form again as a monstrous, fire-breathing beast, with thick black fur, robin's egg eyes, and a long, stout body, something between a wolverine and a crocodile in form. He was enormous, easily clearing the treetops on his hind legs, and he was fierce. After a number of charred, mauled, and disappeared travelers, his reputation got out, and then the only visitors to his woods were noble, foolish knights.

One day, a kindhearted sugar nymph from the south fluttered into his grove. Kinna was far more adventurous than most nymphs, and she especially adored the cakes and gingerbread of the northern country. She took pity on the mess of dark magic that Myles had become. Instead of retreating from his furious display, she stayed put, believing she may have found the spot she'd been looking for. Slowly, she befriended the solitary beast; she needed to be absolutely sure she was correct about the heart so deeply shrouded by chaos and pain, before she could move on to the next part of her plan. When she was certain, she led a trio of orphans from the streets of the nearest town, through the midday forest, to the beast's clearing.

As Kinna expected, Myles was not angry or violent. The children completely flustered him. Their eyes were worn and sad, not frightened. Though he continued to insist he preferred his solitude, the orphans clearly warmed his heart.

Kinna gathered a small fleet of fairies and elves to help manage her growing forest orphanage. The sugar nymphs and elves collected ingredients, the children mixed, and Myles toasted, baked, and confected. When the sun fell, the orphans and fairies all snuggled into the giant beast, his fur keeping them all warm, the fairyglow acting as night-lights for the youngest.
