She never imagined her life would end up like this. From a family of great status and wealth, she fell from such good graces into a life of depravity and poverty. If she had known this ahead of time, perhaps she would have let them kill her…

Ayvis was a lush planet teeming with living creatures, its surface dotted with thick forest and deep oceans which offered support to the living creatures inhabiting it. An extensive list of living beings flourished on Ayvis, but one stood above the rest. The Shiok were a winged native race that had a level of intelligence greater than the other living creatures, leading to the colonization of many areas across Ayvis’ surface and advances in technology. Their taming of Ayvis’ wilds was not without consequence, but the Shiok race thrived.

As the Shiok spread across Ayvi’s surface and grew more intelligent and successful, a form of government started to take form. Status became something of importance and the Shiok with the most abundant and vibrant gems upon their brow became the highest within the community, forming into what was considered the royal family. Among those was Iri, a golden-winged femme, who had become queen of Ayvis and ruler of all. Though a ruling government was a relatively new concept, Iri made the best of her new status. Not only was she a fair ruler, but she also set into action laws to protect those of ‘lesser’ status in order to make life comfortable for all under her rule. Those of lesser status looked up to her and those of higher status respected her. Little did she know her days as queen were numbered.

Dark times fell upon Ayvis when another race known as the Drur crawled across the land, destroying all in their path, ruled by one fearless leader. The opposing race had tamed large creatures to do their bidding, breathing fire to char the once lush forests and destroy the abodes of the natives, their giant tails and sharp claws ripping down any and all obstacles. The Shiok fought valiantly, their own forces mounted upon great beasts with the queen at their backs, though their own beasts and warriors were less seasoned to the ways of battle. The Drur’s skills of war were far beyond that of the Shiok’s and with little effort, the Drur prevailed.

The Shiok that hadn’t been killed in the initial invasion were enslaved, including their queen Iri. All those imprisoned were shackled and stuffed into caravans, prepared to ship from Ayvis to an unknown location. The queen had never felt such fear before, unknowing where she was being shipped or what would be expected of her as a slave. Her subjects around her cowered in fright as the Drur prepared the caravans before giving the signal. The cages lurched forward as the large beasts pulled the caravans into the sky, destined to land on a planet far from Ayvis.

Looking back at Ayvis as it grew smaller and smaller in the sky, Iri lamented at the charred remains of her once proud planet. All it took was one battle and Ayvis was lost. Leaning her head against the glass of the caravan, she wondered what would become of her and the other Shiok that had managed to survive the attack. It was the first time she felt powerless, like she had failed her people. She’d been unable to protect them against the brutal forces of the Drur and now they were being hauled off to an uncertain fate. All she could hope was that, by some miracle, her people would find redemption from the Drur’s rule.
