He was a young kitty. Found on the side of the road. He had made his way into the road and was almost run over by a car. I happened to come by in my car when I saw something in the middle of the road. At first I thought it was just debris in the middle of the road. I watched a truck got over it. That is when I noticed the debris shudder. I did a double take and realized it was a kitten. I pulled over and ran in the middle of the road to collect the kitten. Poor baby was full of infection. His eyes and nose were closed shut from the infection. He mewed pitifully. I felt so bad. I took him home determined to make him feel better. Little did I realize how much trouble this kitten would be!
I decided the first thing that had to be done would be a bath. He fought me left and right but in the end he was bathed. I was able to clear out the infection in his nose and eyes. He started smelling around him right away. He slowly opened his eyes. They were still clouded over a bit but he could see a bit. I called the vet and set up an appointment the next morning. I found a small box and blanket and made him a bed. I found another small box and put some litter in it. I had found an old heating pad and put some warm water in it. I wrapped up in a blanket and put this tiny kitten in the box. Right away the little kitty rolled up in a ball and fell asleep. I went in search of an old nursing bottle and some milk. I nursed him when he awoke as best as I could. He woke up every 2 hours to be fed. He was hungry. That first night was scary. I feared he would not survive. The next morning when I awoke I saw he was already awake and playing! I bundled up and bundled him up and headed to the vet. As soon as the vet saw his he started playing with him. "Ooohhh what a lovely kitten. Let's take a look at him." The vet determined that Zaxirox was about 3 weeks old. His mother had abandoned him because he was a sick kitten. The vet had noticed one of the lenses in his eye was scratched. He gave the kitten his first shots and some antibiotics and some eye cream. "Bring him back in 4 months for his check up please!" I told him I would and I left with my kitty. He was a handful from the moment he started feeling better.
He was accepted right away with the 2 Manx cats that lived in my house. He made it clear right away that he was the alpha male. Freddie and Bella loved him right away. They had the very best of everything. They shared everything down to their treats. Time went by so quickly. By the time I knew it a year and a half had went by. I started noticing that Zaxirox looked like he was losing weight. I got scared and made an appointment with his vet. After lots of tests the results came in. Zaxirox had feline lukemia. He would only have 6 months. I broke down and cried. How could this happen to my precious angel? I was determined to find another solution. 5 months later still no luck. I slowly gave up hope.
One day I get an unusual e-mail from a company I had never heard of. They said they could help me in my situation. They would promise that Zaxirox would live a full healthy life. I was intrigued so I e-mailed them back. I got a response right away. They asked that I bring Zaxirox and meet them in their office right away. I bundled my poor kitty up and headed to their office. I sat in the waiting g room and held my little guy in my lap. I cried and stroked him. He mewed pitifully and looked up at me. His eyes were full of love. I couldn't let him go. They called my name and I got up and went into the office. I could not be prepared for what I saw on the other side of the door.
Sitting on a chair was a mechanical cat bathing itself. It was magnificent! I was in shock. The cat was seated next to a woman and man. They asked me some questions about Zaxirox and myself. I was distracted by that beautiful mechanical cat that the cat finally looked at me and said one word. It shocked me to my core. He simply said "What?" My jaw dropped. He spoke! The mechanical cat could speak. The only word I could mutter was "Nothing." The man and woman smiled. Their names were Jason and Gail Taylor. They explained that the mechanical cat was their cat Mittens. Mittens had gotten very sick and they were determined to have Mittens live forever so they started building a mechanical cat thinking they could transfer his spirit into the mechanical cat. After all their bodies may die but their spirits live on. Through scientific experimentation they were able to transfer Mittens spirit into the mechanical cat. What they didn't expect was the voice. Mittens could speak and boy did he!
Mittens was an amazing site to see. Jason and Gail informed me that they could save Zaxirox if I wanted them to. I was wary about the whole situation. I asked how much would it cost? They said it was quite expensive but if I love my little guy that it was worth it. I decided I would pay any amount of money to save him. My goodness was it expensive. But worth it. The day arrived when I noticed I didn't have much longer with my little guy. His impending death drew closer and I grew more anxious. I finally got the call from the nice couple that Zaxirox's operation could go forth.
I was so nervous when the day finally came but my little guy was now fading fast. I asked if I could be with him when the procedure took place. They said yes. Zaxirox was prepped and ready to go. I held his little paw and told him that everything would be ok. I watched all this machinery behind a big green curtain spew and come to life. I was in awe. It was magnificent. I looked down at my little guy and slowly watched the spark leave his eyes. His last shallow breath was taken. I watched his eyes glaze over and watched his chest stop moving. His heart beat one last time and stopped completely. I hear Jason yell in frustration. He said it was too late. I cried realizing my precious companion was gone. I was distraught. I cuddled my baby in my arms and broke down. Jason came to me and apologized. He told Gail to refund my money to me in full for my loss. He slowly too the tube and wires off of my little frail kitten's body.
After some time I got up and asked if I could view Zaxirox's mechanical body. Jason took me to his body and stepped aside. It was such a site to see. As an added feature Jason had added little wings to Zaxirox's mechanical body to signify how he was still a kitten. He was unique and the first design of his kind. I slowly touched his body and kissed his little face. I had just gotten up and was walking away when Gail shours that something is whirling in Zaxirox's mechanical body. I turn around in anticipation. I was not prepared to see what I saw.
The mechanical kitten sits up and looks around at everything. He jumps down and investigates a cog on the ground. He pushes it around. It moves so his instincts kick in and he "kills it". I laugh as he brings it to me and presents it to me as a gift. I thank him and call him a good kitty. He looks up and opens his mouth and goes to meow but instead says "welcome". I almost faint at hearing that childish voice. I think he is shocked as well. Jason laughs and says that he has added a child's voice to his programing. Gail is delighted. I get on my knees and call Zaxirox to me. He walks up to me and asks me if we are going home now. I say yes. Jason and Gail walk us out and I am handed special instructions and items that Zaxirox will need for a long and happy life. I thanked them and promised to keep in touch with visits, calls, and pictures. They hugged me and smiled.
Zaxirox waited by the door of the car and I opened the door. He jumps into the backseat and I get in. He is quite the chatterbox but I love it. He asks if I love him. I say to the ends of the earth. We go home and I am content knowing my baby will be by my side for a very long time. I love him to the moon and back. He smiles and says "Let's go home mommy". I smile. Music to my ears! We head home.♡♡
Story by me and based on my kitty Luckie's life.
