Melødy was deeply in love once, to whom she thought had been the perfect man. He was a complete gentleman, always opening doors for her and shining that brilliant smile towards her, until it was all she could see anymore. She had fallen head over heels in love with him and he had shattered her heart into a million tiny shards...These shards cut her more deeply and thoroughly than if he had simply thrust a knife deep into her chest where her heart would have been had it not been broken already.

They were to be wed and on the very night, she came to him, filled with joy, only to find him with another woman, in their own bed.

...

She ran from the man until she found a place almost as cold, sad and angry as she was and shut herself from world.

Though Fate is as unavoidable as death itself and it has more in store for her than she can imagine.

The Arctic Frost changed her. Her heart grew cold, icy and hardened with her experiences. While her insides were becoming desolate, her outer appearance became more and more beautiful. The wedding dress she never cast off, froze to her skin and became her protection from the outside cold. She would never be free of it, as it became part of her and metamorphosed into long, pure white feathers. Her hair too lost it's color and worked to cover her emotions with it's own feathery protection. It became like the veil.

Thenceforth, she had been separated, spirit and body, from the outside world and would never again be able to return as she once was.

...

She spent months in the cold, not eating, speaking or moving, lost in her own painful memories, until one night, lit by moonlight that sparkled on the quiet snow, she opened her beak and found a song. It was a sad song, full of pain and longing and those that would hear it would be drawn from the safe paths and perished in the snow. Thus she became known as the siren of the frozen wasteland and though nobody ever set eyes upon her, she became a legend. Feared by those who lost those they loved and revered by those too far consumed by lust after the lovely, and seemingly, sourceless voice they had never even heard.

Ne'er stray from thy path and if ye hear temptation of thee siren of thee snow, cover thy ears and walk on

...

One dark afternoon, still veiled by the thick, icy morning mist, several hours into her art, her eyes parted to see a shadow separate itself from the haze. Terrified, she froze mid-song, shaking and wary, watching with eyes wide as the shadow drew closer and took form into the first living creature she had ever seen in her time in self-exile. It took her several moments to recognize it. The creature before her was a familiar sight in the world she had left behind.

A pet. A Paralix to be more specific.

Much to her relief, the dragon stopped several feet away and stared at her with a dreamy look in it's eyes, looking especially peaceful as a myriad of colors flashed and danced from it's fur onto the snow below. When it did nothing more, she resolved herself to ignoring it until it went away and ruffled her feathers indignantly from the cold while doing so, nose up, but leaving one eye watchful to the intruder.

Not three minutes into the cold shoulder, the dragon's eyes cleared, and it's smile faltered and fell into a near-pout. "Why did you stop?" It asked in a surprisingly light and soft voice for it's form.

Melody started, and flew up to the very top branch of the frozen tree she perched on, her heart skipping a beat or two. Pets didn't speak!
After her breathing calmed and she'd had time to reason that she must have imagined it, she finally peeked back down to the Paralix, who now sat peering up looking-extremely confused.

"Are you okay?"

This time she was more prepared, "You aren't really talking to me." She stated matter-of-factly, "In fact you aren't even really here." She continued without even a pause for breath, "I've been out here alone so long that I'm hallucinating."
