The boy sat nervously in the doctor's office, palms sweating. Mommy had said something was wrong, and they made an emergency trip to Doctor Price's. He'd met Doctor Price before, he was really nice, and always gave him lollies when he visited.
But Mommy said something was wrong, and that scared him. He didn't know what the funny red blotchy hearts on his body meant, and that scared him. Doctor Price came back in, and that scared him for a second. But it WAS getting late.
The black-haired Doctor gave him a reassuring smile and a pat on the head. "There, there," said the rain-like voice, cool and soothing, "we'll get you fixed up. I promise."
Doctor Price left again, and what felt like a forever passed. Night fell outside and he shivered. Was he going to die?
Then a blonde man came in, wearing a grin and wielding a bottle of strange purpley candies.
"Now, we need to be quiet... the stuff I'm givin' ya' isn't exactly legal."

By day, Noel Price is a good-hearted doctor well-beloved by his community. He's always smiling and usually found tending to his garden merrily. (He loves plants and prefers herbal medicine- he actually has a patch of medicinal herbs for families who can't always afford the more expensive treatments.) He's sweet, gentle, and in general, beloved by most who meet him.
Unless they encounter him by night. Anywhere from 7 PM onward is oftentimes the airtime of his alternate personality, Acel. Now, Noel doesn't KNOW he has MPD, but Acel recognizes that he's the other side of Noel and takes appropriate steps to keep their lives separate. However, much like Noel, he has the blood of a doctor in his veins and just so happens to be a maverick- a medical genius. His methods are... perhaps a bit questionable (He'll go to the black market to get medicine for a patient or perform surgeries himself if he deems it) but they can't deny they get results. It's his gift and he has pride in it.
Noel was born from an illicit affair between a married doctor and a nurse. Despite the doctor's best efforts to raise his son with the woman, eventually, he had to give up because his wife was catching on. The last time he ever saw his father, he promised he'd become the best doctor in the world so there'd be no shame in them meeting again. Afterward, the nurse found she just couldn't continue without Noel's father- she gave him to the church and committed suicide shortly after.
Noel, after being taken in, was brought to be a Glade experiment. The ability to control plants was bestowed upon him, along with a sharp, analytical mind and a gentle disposition. The scientist that performed the experiments on Noel loved the boy dearly and tried to see to it that he was well provided for. However, there was also a deep pang of guilt- he'd failed to recreate the perfect results and Noel was a failure. Not only that, the boy had somehow obtained a split personality. Out of respect, he gave this other self a name- Acel, "as a noble", and continued to attempt to raise the boy until he was finally passed to Mama.
The Glade Experiments were simple in nature- to create a nature-controlling soldier. One that could control plants, weather, anything! However, the experiment was a semi-failure with Noel. Noel DOES have the power to control plants to an extent- but it's not perfect and sometimes, the plants will have minds of their own- in reality, it's Acel projecting himself into the plants and controlling them that way. Of course, NOEL doesn't know that. It doesn't help that he's blind in his right eye, either. However, being able to talk to plants has helped Noel in a few ways, and his pet Venus Flytrap- Deidre- keeps him from being too terribly lonely.
Noel is a gentle soul and merely wants to be the best doctor he can, though his dream is to help create a world free of terror of doctors and disease. Acel is similar, but in his case, it's both the same and radically different. Being a boozy gambler and an amazing surgeon both, he wants some way to protect the people from the bad doctors- the ones who abuse their positions and overcharge for treatment, or ask for 300,000 sP for a checkup, he wants to find these doctors and fry them alive. Noel wants people to fear doctors less or not need them at all. Acel wants to make the bad doctors burn.
Noel is an avid gardener and prefers to prescribe herbal remedies for free when he can, thanks to an equally avid knowledge of loopholes that allow him to help his patients for free. Acel however is a gambler, preferring dice and spades of the queen variety- provided said Queen of Spades isn't in HIS hand, of course. He loves card games so much he actually uses them as a long distance weapon when he can. Alternately, Noel is a pacifist and refuses to fight- though because of the amount of fights ACEL gets into, he takes a punch incredibly well, much to his confusion.
