making jewelry: metals sterling silver is the best. gold filled, not gold plated: nothing plated, it'll just wear off as it's a thin coating/layer of the intended metal over any metal - avoid it. keep your sterling silver in a bag, air will make it tarnish faster. it's a soft metal, so wherever it is stored, don't smush it (you should be able to bend it back into shape if something happens, though). don't wear lotion, it'll tarnish it. take it off before doing anything with water as well! s925 is a stamp meaning that it is certified 92.5% sterling silver; the remaining 7.5% may be copper or zinc most often. and traditionally, a piece may not have the s925 stamp unless it is truly sterling silver. sterling silver is hypoallergenic, better for your ears.
