Description

In Arcadia, everyone is a shapeshifter, and the natural animal form which people can take is known as the alter. Position in society is determined by the alter's form. For example, people with worm, insect, and rodent alters are slaves; people with normal alters midway in the food chain, such as cats and birds, are commoners; while the nobility have apex predator alters. Occasionally, there are accidents of birth, where people have alters not commensurate with their social class. A rat may be born to nobility, or a dragon to slave parents. These rare mutations are generally accepted into their new social class, although they face a certain amount of opposition from certain factions.

Magnus' alter is a lion. He lives in a gothic castle with numerous slaves and servants. Naturally lazy, he lets his overseer Eden do most of the day-to-day work of managing the castle and servants.
