Crumbs and Yarn

A pudgy rat lay on a cool wooden countertop, with a smudge of custard across her chin. Black eyes beamed up at her visitor and she spoke in a high pitched yet somewhat gravelly voice “What’s my name?” She asked, “Name’s Custard! Greetings! My name tells all, I quite love to eat. I can't help it! I just have an absolute weakness for sweets and caffeine.” She let out a jolly chuckle before continuing, “I mean but who doesn't pine after a little slice of chocolate fudge cake? Who wouldn’t kill for a coffee macaroon? Who wouldn’t want to swim in dozens upon dozens of white chocolate mochas in a row? I'll tell you who would, ME.” The little rat spied a crumb on the floor a short distance away and darted over to gobble it up.

Custard looked up at her visitor’s amused yet judging gaze, “Hey, you know its hard work having a sweet tooth like this. It isn’t some easy habit that any lazy rodent can have. I have to scurry in and out of numerous bakeries and cafes daily. You know it’s always a problem, I’m always getting spotted by someone violent who tries smashing me with a broom or trapping me under a pot. People somehow have an eye for a small creature sneaking around the ground. It’s not fair, I’ve gotta eat too! What's so wrong with a hungry Wyllop anyhow? I'm cute, cuddly, and have a chubby belly. I’m friendly and love raiding kitchens with whatever rodent cares to join me. I never exclude anyone. In fact I have a following of rodent minions who I make sure never go to bed hungry. What more could anyone want out of a friend? Nothin' I can think of, that's for sure!”
